In Greene County district court Dustin Michael McGuire was sentenced April 11 to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. He must pay $48 per day in sheriff’s fees for the time he serves, and his driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. McGuire was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge. He must also pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge and $100 court costs. A charge of public intoxication-second offense was dismissed.
A companion case in magistrate court in which McGuire was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was also dismissed. The court ruled that he is unable to pay $180 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $100 in the district court case and $60 in the magistrate court case. Katie Leora Halligan, 22, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)-first offense. She was placed on informal probation for one year and must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation and a community college drinking drivers course. A judgment was entered against her for a $1,250 civil penalty and $100 court costs. A charge of possession of marijuana was dismissed. (Sentencing: Kester)
Dustin Eugene Leggitt, 38, of Jefferson was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI-first offense. A judgment was entered against Leggitt for a $1,250 fine with a $437.50 surcharge and a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE). Patrick Douglas Doyle, 46, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of unauthorized use of a credit card. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for one year. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. The court determined he is unable to pay $180 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, but he must pay a $125 LEI surcharge and $100 court costs. Three counts of unauthorized use of credit and four counts of identity theft were dismissed. Devon Christopher Miller, 19, of Ames was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of illegal possession of prescription drugs. He was placed on informal probation for one year, and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. A judgment was entered against Miller for a $315 civil penalty and a $125 LEI surcharge. The court determined he is unable to pay $180 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. A case in district court in which Tyler Joe Beger, 18, of Grand Junction was charged with possession of marijuana was waived on April 8 to juvenile court by an order by Judge Kester. The petition to waive was filed by Beger’s attorney. Beger had pleaded not guilty Feb. 25 and a trial date was set for May 10 in district court.
Persons pleaded not guilty in district court as follows: Joseph Donald Andrews, 32, of Gowrie, possession of marijuana-second offense and carrying weapons; Shiela Ann Rice, 43, of Paton, assault while displaying weapon; and Jacob Thomas Monthei, 17, of Jefferson, possession with intent to deliver – not for sale. Trial dates were set for June 21 in every case.

Kinsey, 46, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine; and Delbert Thomas Davis, 38, of Earlham, driving while license barred.
